Application Sharing with Articulate Presenter Courses
Can my published Articulate Presenter Rapid eLearning online course move or rather switch to, during playback, to an application like I can when delivering a live webinar?
INTRODUCTION: When Articulate Presenter is used to publish an eLearning product with a PowerPoint slide and voice narration, the published files (several) are hosted within a webserver and accessed via one link (i.e. html file) which then kicks off and controls the playback of the many differently published files that make up the course in whole (most of these are .SWF files).
The published course is one single product that you’re accessing and experiencing online; can be played back as often as required (like accessing a posted file anywhere) but is not live.
A webinar service / tool (e.g. Adobe Connect, Cisco WebEx, GoToWebinar, Microsoft Office Live Meeting, etc.) to deliver content live allows you to deliver the pre-loaded content (e.g. PowerPoint file) and then “app share” anything else you’re currently using / have open on your computer – any other application. So you can deliver the pre-loaded content and then pause to display something else to your participants, etc. Your webinar can typically be recorded and everything you “did” during the live session is recorded and will be seen when downloaded and played back.
QUESTION AND RESPONSE: So if you ask yourself the following question: “Can my published Articulate Presenter Rapid eLearning online course move or rather switch to, during playback, to an application like I can when delivering a live webinar session?”, the answer would logically be no.
The eLearning product you’re accessing and playing back is complete, online and specific to your web browser playing back published files – you are not in a live session when viewing previously published content.
DEMO / APP SIM INCLUSION: You can, on a slide from a published Articulate Presenter course, provide a hyperlink to another site or a previously published demonstration / application simulation – having the slide pause for the user to access / experience the other eLearning product or site. Alternatively, you can import any previously published demonstrations / application simulations into your Articulate Presenter’s course and choose that it plays back either in a new window or within the standard player area.
Often, pre-recorded demonstrations / application simulations are created and published with Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate or TechSmith’s Camtasia Studio. LinDion Services also provides additional service for the creation of such demonstrations / application simulations.
If you or we were to use a separate authoring program to create a demo / app sim of say, SAP or anything else, and would want this to display on say, slide 33 of your course, then we would package that into your final course / presentation with Articulate Presenter software.
